UPDATE: the police called the guy, and he came out and called me on the number I left. He said he thought I was another Dr. Chariot, one of the docs in his practice group. He said in 25 years, he didn’t know there was another Dr. Chariot in that garage. I didn’t get into what that says about his intentions, or why he thought it was okay to take up the spot of one of his juniors. That’s their business. The important thing is that he promised it would never happen again.
The other thing I learned is that he moved his car and then called me so I could move mine. So, he got out! I thought for sure I had him thoroughly boxed in. This means I greatly underestimated the maneuverability of the 911. Now I am seriously impressed.
Like this Carrera S? I think the wheels are pretty nice. Anyway, the reason I’m showing it to you is that it is parked in my reserved spot.
So, I decided to box him in and leave him this note. This could be fun.

Ballsy. The closest I’ve ever gotten to that: there was some 150k coupe at the Fashion Mall in Indy parked well over the center line, making it very difficult for me to park facing it in the only spot I could find.
So I’d hop out (hooray for doorless driving), check how close I was, hop back in, crawl a couple of inches, hop out again, etc.
I put a post-it note on the window, but then realized anyone who could afford that car also had a lawyer who could make my life miserable, so demonstrating my fierce courage I removed the note.

“Nice car.... be a real shame if sumpin’ happent to it...”
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:18 |

At least you had a measure of catharsis just writing that note!
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:20 |

And sumpin’ will. I just called campus police and told them what I’d done. When they have ha d a chance to identify and leave a citation, they’ll call me to move my car.
I never would have risked this if it was a beater Maxima, but this car I’m pretty sure the owner isn’t going to try and bumper car his way to freedom.

The sad part is I saw him a few minutes later, he made sure to check that I hadn’t tapped him, and I didn’t yell at him. Profiles in courage indeed.

You could be surprised
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:27 |

Well if I am, both I and the police now have his plate number.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:27 |

Boxing them in and then rolling up in your chair when they call you is definitely a power move.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:27 |

I like to see them back out :D. It’s possible, probably 50 x of going back and forth.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:28 |

Is it obvious that this is a reserved spot?
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:29 |
|
He’s got maybe two feet against the wall. Theoretically possible, I suppose.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:29 |
|
Would they tow him? I’d just have them do that.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:31 |

Jesus, that’s so embarrassing. Anyway. At best he’s ignorant, at worst he’ll play ignorant.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:31 |

Well, there is a big blue sign right at eye level on the wall in front of it that says, “Reserved for Dr. Chariotoflove”. You can see one in the top pic.
But against the possibility that this guy isn’t an asshole, and also to not be mean myself, I left a cheery note.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:32 |
|
I love this.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:34 |

They will if they can’t ID and contact him. Otherwise, after they cite him, if there is another spot where I could park, I can move there. That would be fine with me. Even better would be if he calls me and has to wait for me to come let him out. I suspect that would be lesson enough. I don’t really want revenge. I just want to discourage this behavior. In my experience, if left unchecked, folks like this keep doing it.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:34 |

As long as he learns to not do it again, I’ll be satisfied.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:35 |

I too am enjoying it. Probably more than I should.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:40 |

As far as I can see there is plenty of parking in that lot. Asshole level 11 right here.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:45 |
|
quite literally, the least they could do.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:47 |
|
This is the doctor’s lot, so to be fair, about 90% of the spots are name reserved. However, there are several spots that are marked “unreserved” with big yellow signs, so the asshole qualification sticks. Unfortunately, all of the unreserved spots are not end spots so that I cannot use one of them myself, or I would become boxed in from the side as the garage fills up.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:53 |
|
Ok, t he first photo made it look like there was not such a sign as i had in the past a job with reserved parking spots that were marked on the floor but not clearly visible when driving and often visitors would park on them genuinely not realizing it was reserved .

It is just so much worse that this guy happened to take one of the only wheelchair accessible spots.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:56 |
|
I think seeing the person he blocked roll up in style in a wheelchair should at least qualm some of the belligerent anger I would expect.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 11:57 |
|
I hope this person is is just stewing there waiting for you to come up, desperately trying to come up with reasons to be that YOU’RE the asshole and not them . Then they see you roll up and you get to watch the fight disappear from their eyes.
I love this, I did exactly this in high school. Some teachers aide kept using my specific spot in the student parking lot (faculty had their own spot) and it kept making me late cause I’d have to go around and park at the front of the building and report them. So about the 3rd time it happened I parked just like you did and went straight to the campus security guy. When we walk ed back out together, the aide was standing out there totally bewildered at the situation. It wasn’t as satisfying of a moment as I’d hoped but s he never did it again ...

Haha - nicely done!
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:01 |

That does happen. I remember that my dad showed up at the VA doctor’s lot way before sunrise, as was his custom. He parked in his usual spot. When he came out, he found that they had painted a handicap symbol on the concrete bumper overnight, and he didn’t see it.

Oh, yeah I guess you would need a good width for the chair, like 3-4 feet to get in and out.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:24 |
|
Yeah, what I’ve found over the years is that it’s more satisfying in my mind than in reality. When the confrontation comes, the anger drains from me, and I’m just glad to resolve the problem.
Anyway, in this case, the police found the guy, and he came out and moved his car. Then, he called me on my cell and apologized. Promised it would never happen again. So, I’m happy. The big surprise is that he got out! This means I must have greatly underestimated the maneuverability of the 911 and leaves me impressed.

Had to read that twice before I lol’d.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:28 |
|
Yep. That’s the big requirement. Distance isn’t an issue for me with handicap parking. I personally wouldn’t care of all the lots put them on the outskirts (except when it’s raining with an outside lot), as long as I have that space. In fact, this spot I love so much is actually about 7-10 min, several buildings, and two elevators away from my office. I don’t mind since it’s all indoors.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:38 |
|
Woah, he got out of there? I can’t believe that! Never underestimate a backup camera.
And yeah why would you intentionally try to take the spot of one of your juniors? Seems like office bullying, though I can see some sort of weird jealousy over a parking spot that is presumably close to the elevators.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:40 |
|
He got out first, then called you... Oh man, you know he was proud of himself for that.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:42 |
|
Especially since he must have a spot with his own name on it, since he said he’s been in that garage for years. I just didn’t want to get into it. But I did tell him I was surprised he escaped.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:43 |

I could hear it in his voice when I said I was surprised. Glad he enjoyed the experience.

A predictable outcome: asshole comes out unscathed.

Coppers called him, so he couldn’t completely ghost. Besides, how could he gloat about it if he didn’t call me?
![]() 10/26/2020 at 12:59 |
|
Well, it sounds like he learned a lesson, and at least had the guts to call you up and apologize. Hopefully it was a sincere one.
I’m curious to know if there really is another Dr. Chariot, I guess, or if he made that up. Whatever, hopefully he was embarrassed into never making that mistake again.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 13:03 |

Yeah that’s something that isn’t great to say to his face but definitely worth speculating about later.

True Confession— My youngest was in NICU for a long time after birth. We had an Eastern European nanny looking after the other kids— and she’d take them down to the hospital in one of the Suburbans to visit once in awhile.
Being sorta sketchy, and dealing with toddlers, she quickly figured out it was easier to navigate the Land Yacht into one of the nice big juicy doctors’ spots right next to the hospital, rather than the “Visitors” Ramp two blocks away. She got away with it (always lots of open spots) for a few weeks, but one day some indignant doc in a 911 jumps out of his car and runs over to her to tell her she can’t park there.... And...
She immediately bursts into some highly apologetic, but completely unintelligible, Bulgarian dialect. The color drains out of the doc’s face when he realizes she doesn’t understand. He gives it up, defeated.
She, naturally, speaks perfect English and taught English in an American School in Sofia for years before emigrating.
She was a beecch, but a funny beech.
I’m sorry. I apologize. I’ll see myself out.

Damn he must have optioned the four wheel steering on his 911

![]() 10/26/2020 at 13:10 |

I wonder if he preferred the chore of getting the 911 out more than the thought of having a face to face confrontation . This way it got resolved without him being present when you came back to your car?
![]() 10/26/2020 at 13:23 |

I have a floor jack in my trunk for track purposes, so if someone parked in my spot they might find their car up in the air on the jack without the handle attached.
I’ve got a buddy with wheel jacks that we’ve used to clear vehicles left in lots we rented for autox. And, in high school we had 4 football players pick up a Geo Metro and move it sideways between a light pole and a truck who’s driver mysteriously disappeared when the Geo’s owner was trying to leave.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 13:30 |

I had the opposite of this happen to me once . Some guys on blinged out choppers blocked me in while at work when I was a youngin’. Guess they figured I’d see choppers, get scared and just leave my bike there? Anyways, I walked both their bikes into the middle of the parking lot and rode away.

How it got out, probably:

A forgivable error, it appears (assuming he’s telling the truth).
Glad he apologized.

He probab ly did cheat with sensors and cameras both front and rear.
And n ot having an engine up front might help for the turning radius.

I’d sooner believe that security showed up with a set of wheel jacks and relocated the car before they called you.

That was my first thought, too, to look up four wheel steering options on 911 models when I have time.
![]() 10/26/2020 at 16:29 |

Possibly. I’m sure he had a smile on his face as he inched out though.

Oh, I am not a fan of bikes making up parking spots that block me getting my chair out. I haven’t quite gotten to pushing one over, but I’ve thought seriously about it.

They would have towed him if I needed them to and they couldn’t find the guy. But I wouldn’t want that if we could help it anyway.

I thought so too. In the world of grayscale cars, some still look great in black. This was one of them.

I’m wondering how they knew how to call him. Does the security team at your location have a list of cell numbers?
I called our security because of an empty running car in our garage. Eight hours later, it was still sitting there running. They called me to ask if I knew who owned it. Nope. I did get to meet her. We just happened to leave at the same time. She was shocked that her car was still running. I told her that I had reported it I hoped they could get word to the owner. She worked on my floor....
![]() 10/26/2020 at 22:04 |
|
The garage is card access. They have a data base of contact info for anyone who has a card. I gave them the plate, so they looked him up. That means he didn’t sneak in behind someone.
![]() 10/27/2020 at 00:16 |

Yep, I found that 911's have excellent turning radius. I could probably get old 997 out of that same situation, though I’m sure that car has PDK and a backup camera, both of which would make it much less nerve wracking.
![]() 10/27/2020 at 01:18 |

Whatever allowed him to not mark up my car is appreciated!
